First, I have a Master's in Psychology and, one of my other roles, is owning and operating my small private practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA Lic. 133512).
So, I approach my work with rigor and expertise that comes from years of graduate level study and research, and 1000's of hours with therapy clients addressing major psychological crisis' and intensive treatment.
I know my stuff and I know the science and research to back it up.
Many coaches that you'll find out there don't have the education and experience to backup their claims of expertise and experience.
I don't want to throw anybody under the bus but that's kind of like a surgeon who only knows how to open you up but doesn't have the education or experience to put you back together.
I don't know about you but I'd like to be in one piece...
I approach coaching as a father, husband, and occasional human (when my toddler finds it within himself to grant my wife and I mercy).
My life can get messy, overwhelming, and sometimes I don't even have the wherewithal to use the tools I teach in this very course.
I'm not offering you a guru, I'm offering you myself and the hard-earned wisdom and experience I've gained through life with all it's rough and tumble beauty.
Education, expertise and experience joined with everything life has taught me. I'm not complete without either approach. And, neither is the service I'm offering you here.
You are getting the real thing.

Buckle up, I get a bit long-winded here because I want to clear up any misunderstandings, and point you in the right direction.
So, when it comes to seeking support for your mental health and personal growth, it can be confusing to navigate the different options available.

I do both coaching and therapy, and I love each approach.
Second, it’s important to understand that both therapy and coaching are valuable forms of support, but they have different approaches and goals.
Therapy is typically focused on addressing mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues. It often involves diagnosing and treating psychological disorders, and can be provided by licensed mental health professionals, such as psychologists, social workers, or licensed therapists. Therapy sessions can be covered by insurance, and the therapist is bound by ethical and legal regulations.
Coaching, on the other hand, is focused on helping individuals achieve their personal and professional goals. It can address areas such as career development, relationships, personal growth, and mindset shifts. Coaches are not licensed mental health professionals, but rather trained in coaching techniques and tools to support individuals in achieving their desired outcomes. Coaching sessions are typically not covered by insurance and do not involve a diagnosis or treatment of mental health disorders.
The biggest difference between therapy and coaching is their focus and approach. While therapy is often focused on addressing psychological issues and treating mental health disorders, coaching is focused on empowering you to achieve your goals and create positive change in your life.
Coaching is often more action-oriented, with the coach providing guidance and accountability to help you reach your desired outcomes.
